March 2026 Grab Bag

A wide shot of the 2025 Academy Awards: a gold stage with Conan O'Brien presenting in front of rows of attendees.

Are you all watching the Oscars next week? I’ve been trying to be better about actually watching the nominated films so I feel a bit more invested this year. Let me know if you want me to do an awards re-cap/thoughts!

  1. Speaking of the best picture nominees, here’s a thread with all my off the cuff reviews so far. Non-spoiler alert that Sinners is my favorite, but I have to shout out The Secret Agent as being a wonderful, vintage classic feeling film that is extremely watchable
  2. Recently acquired the Cinephile card game and having fun playing around with it. There's the pre-set games that come with the box but we’ve been enjoying our own riffs as well. Current favorite is pulling two random cards and pitching a movie with the two actors
  3. New Mitski album! Nothing’s About to Happen to Me – still marinating on thoughts but love the lead single "Where is My Phone" (plus a cool house in the music video!) and the first track “In a Lake”
  1. Late to the party on Rosalia’s album LUX but holy shit. I can’t really put into words my reaction to it but wholeheartedly recommend
  1. Movies I (re)-watched this month that reminded me of Gilmore Girls: His Girl Friday and Practical Magic
  2. Started Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the Game of Thrones spinoff based on the Dunk and Egg books. It’s fun! I wish things (especially fantasy/sci-fi work) didn’t have to always be connected to existing IP to be made these days
  3. A real “thanks, I hate it!” video from Lily Alexandre about the current state of media, framed by a seemingly simple initial prompt: why does the New York Times love asking stupid questions?
  1. As a fun(?) pairing with the Lily Alexandre video, there’s Delia Cai musing on her newsletter Deez Links about the pendulum swing between media consolidation and decentralization
  2. I’m not sure what it says about my mental health but I’ve gotten back into Animal Crossing: New Horizons – for those who care there was recently a big update to the game making a few annoying tedious tasks slightly less annoying and tedious! Game changer, tbh
  3. Mourning dove update: our two little love birds are still hanging out regularly on our window sill! We’ve been occasionally putting out a few sunflower seeds for them. We’ve named them Mite and Fluff.

All hail queen Fluff

On last month’s grab bag I was manifesting spring. As I’m writing this one it’s 62 degrees! Manifesting works, baby! Signing off and about to bask in the warm weather.
